| Overview |
The Academia Sinica Center for Digital Cultures (ASCDC) was formerly a division adjacent to the Research Center for Information Technology Innovation from 2007 to January 31, 2013 to preside over and carry out Taiwan e-Learning and Digital Archives Program (TELDAP, 2008-2012). Since its foundation on February 1, 2013, ASCDC continues the legacy of Taiwan’s national undertaking in constructing the cyberinfrastructure for digital culture initiated in the 1980s. In the spirit of open access and cross-disciplinary co-creation, ASCDC advocates ways of making use of aspects of human culture creatively and ‘translating’ forms of existing knowledge into various cultural products.
Our main missions are:
- Preserve, transmit, and create culture through digital means
- Use digital technology to enrich research materials, improve research environment, and advance the study of Humanities
- Explore the relationship between digital technology and human civilization
Essential works of ASCDC include: expanding digital archives, innovating digital technology, advancing digital humanities, maintaining the archives, and playing an active role in the international community. Our strategy centers on the progress of academic research with significant concerns in culture preservation, economic growth and social impact. ASCDC is a product- and praxis-oriented institute that cares about what end-users need and encourages them to get involved so that the digital products stay in close connection with people.
To achieve these, ASCDC runs a variety of projects aside from maintenance work: The Open Museum, IT & Web Maintenance, Digital Humanities Research Platform, The Digital Culture Advocate, Linked Open Data, Creative Appliance, and International Connection. We are here to drive the ‘democratization’ and ‘globalization’ of digital cultures. |
