The 2018 Academia Sinica Open House will take place on Saturday October 27. With up to 300 events and activities, departments across Academia Sinica welcome drop-in visitors.

Specializing in integrating cultural heritage and creative work with digital technology, the Academia Sinica Center for Digital Cultures offers a preview of the Open Museum, 3D zoo exhibit, and an interactive installation powered by HTC VIVE. Copies of Creative Comic Collection (CCC) will be on sale as well.

The Open Museum is a 2-year project that leads to an online curatorial platform which enables individuals and organizations to store and show their collections in self-designed exhibits. In accessing the Open Museum, the user is free to browse, research, and make use of the contents on the platform for curatorial purposes. An array of tools is available to help create self-styled exhibits in visualizing the data, such that curating an exhibit will be accessible to everyone who is interested. The Open Museum will officially go online on the day of Open House—explore the fun and wonder at once!

"3D Zoo at the Museum of the Institute of History and Philology" features a virtual close-up of the animal motif of a selection of ancient artifacts through holographic projection and audio-narrative. Standing Owl, Bridle Ornament with Turquoise, Gu-Shaped Cup, and Inscribed Deer Skull will be there to greet you. In manipulating the touchpad, you are free to contemplate the trove of antiques in 360 degrees. This is made possible thanks to the partnership between the ASCDC and the project titled "Innovating the Digital Archives of Archeological Data" under "The IHP's Project to Digitally Innovate Academic Settings."

The interactive installation captures the cityscape in four sections. Discover the city through an overlay exhibit of maps ranging from centuries ago to the modern time. The HTC VIVE motion sensor allows for an accurate uncovering of the superposed maps, and the mobile all of the Walking into the Past and Present series will provide location for historical buildings.

Do not miss the Creative Comic Collection (CCC)—a total of 8 issues published since the collection's relaunch will all be available at the Open House. Getting a copy is essential to having a taste of ASCDC’s forays into subculture and creative work.
