The Program for Geographical Information Value-Added Processing and Development of Map AI

Basic information
Project identifier AS-ASCDC-112-102
Conducted by Research Center for Humanities and Social Sciences
Director
Overview

This project is research-driven and concerned with the construction of Spatio-temporal Knowledge Infrastructure. Over twenty years, it developed Academia Sinica’s strengths in Geographic Information related digital archiving, and this undertaking has come to a big spatio-temporal information database. This project builds ad hoc search systems based on the metadata extracted from the materials in order to integrate GIS resources that used to be dispersed in different institutions. The goals of this year's project are "Geographic Information Value-Added Processing and Integration Application" and "Application of Artificial Intelligence in Map Database (Map AI)." A selection of 35,000 maps and remote sensing images will be add-valued such as coordination georeferencing for further application. We will publish more than 500 online map services or index map vector layers to facilitate GIS-related applications. Based on the digital archives of geographic information and the process record files of manual GIS value-added processing, this project will try to develop Map AI technology, including "automatic map georeferencing, "automatic creation of index map vector layers," and "place names extraction from Chinese maps."
