Institute of Taiwan History (ITH) has collected treasured Taiwan-related records in order to support academic research since the preparatory office was established in 1993. The categories of the records include family and folk papers, personal papers and collections, institutional archives, and rare books and documents. ITH follows the trend of new information technologies and applies them to digital archives and value-added application of archival systems. In light of the list passports issued by Taiwan Government-General, this historical record is important for the researches on Taiwanese real-life experiences of cross-border mobility in Japanese colonial period. In recent years, ITH has acquired Passport Issuance of Taiwan Government-General by applying for permits to reproduce the records form the Diplomatic Archives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan. For the past few years, we try to use data analysis tools and build digital content of Passport Issuance to excavate the historical value of Passport Issuance of Taiwan Government-General. For this purpose, ITH continue the “Taiwan Historical Archives Digitization & Value-added Project” that has been implemented over the years. We’ll plan a two-year schedule to execute the digital archives and value-added digital content of Passport Issuance. This project will integrate digital archives, innovative contents, and value-added services so as to support academic research and to promote the knowledge of Taiwan History.
