Overview

The present project continues the initiatives from 2023 and 2024, ""Han-Nom Documents and Traditional Knowledge in Vietnam from the Perspective of Sinology (I & II)." The current application building on the foundation of the "Vietnamese Han-Nom Texts Database" developed over the past two years.

The project has four main objectives:

1.To continually optimize the existing content of the "Vietnamese Han-Nom Texts Database" and perfect the various ongoing authority files.

2.To collaborate with the Institute of Philosophy, Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences, in digitizing 158 rare Han-Nom texts in their collection and incorporating the results into the "Vietnamese Han-Nom Texts Database."

3. To digitize and incorporate globally available Vietnamese Han-Nom texts into the database.

4. To establish links with global digital archives of Han-Nom texts.

The expected tangible benefits of this project include at least the following three aspects:

1. Expanding the content and functionality of the "Vietnamese Sino-Nôm Texts Database,"

2. Enhancing the text recognition system at the digital cultural center for ancient Vietnamese scripts, and 3. Providing a model for future collaborations with other Vietnamese institutions.

If successfully executed, this project will significantly strengthen our institute's capacity for Southeast Asian cultural studies. It will also integrate with our existing East Asian research topics, aligning with the recent government initiative to promote cultural exchange with Southeast Asia.
