Overview |
This project is research-driven and focuses on the construction of a spatio-temporal knowledge infrastructure. Over more than two decades, leveraging Academia Sinica's expertise in geographic information-related digital archiving, this undertaking has grown into a large-scale spatio-temporal information database. The project builds ad hoc search systems based on metadata extracted from the materials to integrate GIS resources that were previously dispersed across different agencies.
For 2025–2026, our main goals are "Value-Added Processing and Integration of Geographic Information" and " Development of Geospatial AI (Geo AI)." We plan to process 5,000 maps or aerial images annually, including tasks like geographic coordinate referencing and image annotation. We'll also publish over 100 online map services and index map vector layers to support different kind of GIS applications. Furthermore, we will integrate services for existing digital archives and develop GeoAI technology to automate tasks like extracting symbol, text, and lines from historical maps. |
