Overview

The Institute of History and Philology (IHP), Academia Sinica, was founded in 1928. Since that time, it has not only conducted excavations of the ruins of Yin in Anyang, the Western Zhou of Hsin-ts'un in Chun County, and the two Eastern Zhou sites of Liu-li-ko in Hui County and Shan-piao-chen in Ji County, but it has also acquired a collection of Han wooden slips from Edsen-gol River, Kansu. These artifacts, collected throughout the course of research, are of great significance and irreplaceable value.

These archaeological materials that have been studied and analyzed by researchers can help us reconstruct the history of people's life and civilization beyond the written records. However, academic writings are difficult to read, and with the changes in times and society, we are now facing the challenges of historical interpretation. Academic circles have recognized this problem and are working on making changes. Inspired by the situation, this project has cooperated with the Museum of the Institute of History and Philology (IHP Museum) since 2018, using multimedia technologies and digital platforms to promote exhibitions with historical interpretation under universal values.

After years of hard work, we believe it is time to systematically integrate these presentation mediums. The core concept of the project is to integrate "physical displays," "blogs," "digital exhibits," and "YouTubers" into the institution of history exhibition, thereby greatly enriching the IHP Museum, in hopes that audiences of various backgrounds and ages will all enjoy the Institute's academic achievements and artifacts.

The project is scheduled for three years, aiming at deconstructing the context of Western Zhou, Eastern Zhou and Han periods. Historical figures such as Pomaofu, the great general from early Western Zhou; Chihyao, the well-known minister from the Chin State of the Spring and Autumn period; and Ch'inghsien, a border-stationed soldier from the Western Han period, will be "time-traveled" to the IHP Museum to talk to the audience about their eras.
