"Taiwanese Manga: 2018 in Retrospect," vol. 10 of Creative Comic Collection is published, featuring some of the unforgettable works of Taiwanese manga. We are delighted to have Wang Pei-di, chief editor of Taiwanese Manga Doesn't Die, to survey the landscape of Taiwanese manga over the year 2018. To present a combo of recommendations, we discuss the annual top lists of Books.com.tw, Wawa Bookstore, major and individual publishers, and individual journalists.

Special Exhibit

"Roaming in Fantasy: Creative Comic Collection Exhibit," co-organized by the ASCDC, the Ministry of Culture, Taiwan Comic Base, Shih Hsin University, Aver Information, Gaea Books, Kiwing Co., Kent Animation Digital Independent Production, Inc., Kadokawa International Edutainment, features Scrolls of a Northern City, one of the manga classics of CCC, whose movie adaptation is underway. In making use of Apple ARKit 2, the exhibit recreates AR scenes of the story where visitors are greeted by the 3D projection of characters in the period teahouse of Taipei in the 1930s.

The ASCDC hosts a workshop to promote the Digital Humanities Research Platform at the 9th International Conference of Digital Archives and Digital Humanities. Read more

In collaboration with the Forestry Bureau, Council of Agriculture, Executive Yuan and the Society for Wildlife and Nature, the ASCDC plays host to a workshop featuring Taiwan Encyclopedia of Life and the Open Museum in Kinmen. Hsu Cheng-hsin, project manager of Taiwan Encyclopedia of Life, and Dr Chen Yi-yun, staff at the Institute of History and Philology, spoke at the workshop.

Academia Sinica GO 2.0 is launched. The navigation app extends its scope to the neighborhood of Academia Sinica and provides a wide range of practical information to support life on the campus. Read more

"Indie Game," vol. 9 of Creative Comic Collection, is published, featuring the development of Taiwanese indie game industry and the industry's challenge and opportunity. Among the interviewees are RedCandleGames, Mizo Games, and 18Light Game, burgeoning companies that turn local cultural fabrics into virtual wonder.

Promotional Event

In IT Month 2018, the ASCDC collaborates with the Forestry Bureau, Council of Agriculture, Executive Yuan, to present a photo sticker booth featuring leopard cat, a protected species of Taiwan. The idea is to communicate the importance of environmental protection through an interactive installation foregrounding manga stories. Read here

International Exchange

A consensus is reached between the ASCDC and Prof Tracy Miller from Vanderbilt University to import the vocabulary for traditional Chinese architecture to the Art & Architecture Thesaurus. Read more

Interdisciplinary Partnership

The ASCDC works with the Taipei Chinese PEN to present Taipei Chinese Center, International PEN-Open Museum, a website dedicated to the literary society’s history and archives. Read more
